What mineral is your body craving? – Naturally Energised Nutrition by Kylie McCarthy | Nutrition & Weight Loss Gold Coast

What mineral is your body craving?

When we are craving, our body is often telling us we are deficient in a nutrient.  A craving can be fulfilled in many different ways other than carbohydrate rich treats.

Sugar- also known as “white death”

It leaves you lethargic and over burdens your liver with inevitable development of fatty liver.  Eating sugar causes blood sugar imbalances inflames the digestive tract causing leaky gut (literally, a perforated gut lining) and can increase your chances of insulin resistance, waltzing you into the global health crisis called Type 2 Diabetes.

You have been reading it everywhere- if you are reading the right blogs, hearing Nutritionist bang on about it- if they are good ones, and can these days find countless books about it- the benefits of a sugar free diet.

If you have decided to give a sugar free lifestyle a go- I congratulate you on your health choice.

Health tip basics:

Bread made of wheat rye oats and spelt contains gluten.  Gluten causes weight gain and induces all manner of auto immune disease within your body- there are hundreds.

Margarine is really grey, coloured yellow back in the factory so it looks like butter.

Aspartame in drinks (also known by its chemical # of 951) is a neurotoxin that kills brains cells so effectively it is now illegal to add into foods or drinks in the United States.   Unfortunately, it took a few million dollars worth of law suits won by the public suffering from Aspartames debilitating neurological effects before the U.S decided to pull it from the shelves.   As a side note- Aspartame is not illegal in Australia- you will still find it in a lot of products, but the labelling system in Australia can be misleading to the consumer telling only the part truth, but legislation around labels is getting better.  Here in Australia, you generally won’t find the word Aspartame on a label any more- you will see its proper chemical name (Aspartame is a chemical made my Monsanto) you will see this chemical name of 951 on labels.   Why put Aspartame on labels when people are starting to become aware of its brain toxic effects? Heaven forbid- that might drop sales.

I think about the plethora of other nutritional horrors that the regular consumer is not aware of and I find understanding for those that continue to wake up to a cereal or eat bread every day, and can only hope their path leads them to a whole foods Nutritionist- not a dietician, in the search of truth around foods choices that are not swayed by industry and vested interest.

Back to the specific topic at hand- sugar.   No grains or anything made of grains, so no bread, pasta, no biscuits, pastries muffins, no lollies and no added table sugar- Stevia is your best plant derived natural sweetener that does not raise blood sugars.

Talk to your nutritionist about supplementing with the right minerals, foods, herbs and amino acids that can help you to control your cravings.

Below is a short list of healthy foods alternatives for you to keep in mind- Be aware of what you are craving and give your body what it is asking for.
