Maca a powerful strength and libido enhancing superfood – Naturally Energised Nutrition by Kylie McCarthy | Nutrition & Weight Loss Gold Coast

Maca a powerful strength and libido enhancing superfood

Maca is the highest altitude growing crop on the planet and contains over 20 different fatty acids.  Coming from the same family as the radish broccoli & cauliflower- the Brassicacae, makes Maca a kind of oily radish vegetable- very unique.

For thousands of years, South American tribes have used Maca for its powerful strength and libido enhancing properties.

Maca’s list of benefits is impressive:

  • Increases energy and Endurance- Maca has an ability to provide more energy but unlike other stimulants, it will not over-stimulate the body’s systems.
  • Rebuilds the immune system-  Being a powerful adaptagen, Maca has the ability to balance and stabilize the body’s cardiovascular, nervous, musculature and lymphatic systems- adaptogen’s also boost immunity and increase the body’s overall vitality.
  • Maca assists in regulating and balancing the delicate endocrine system which can be put out of balance quite easily with the stressors and toxicity of 21st century living.  Your endocrine system includes your Hypothalamus, Adrenal glands, Thyroid and Parathyroid, Pancreas, Thymus, Ovaries/testies and Pituitary gland, so something as natural and harmonizing as maca to assist in balancing this amazing system of ours is well received by the body.
  • Used by the South American tribes to improve sexual function and enhance fertility, Maca was often used before setting out on long journeys due to its energy and endurance enhancing properties. More recently Maca has been found to assist in the alleviation of depression and can also assist in enhancing memory and learning.

How can you use it?

Simply heating your choice of milk on the stove top and slowly adding a tablespoon (or two) of Maca, slowly stirring as the milk heats is all there is to it.  With its almost caramel flavours, I’m sure Maca will become another super food staple in your cupboard.

The addition of Maca to homemade protein balls is another way to incorporate them into your diet.

As the warmer months so welcomingly start to move in on us, an icy cold Maca Smoothie is always a mid morning favourite at our place.

1 Tablespoon Maca Root powder
2 Brazil Nuts
1 Cup Almond Milk
1 Tablespoons cacao powder
Optional – 1 x Teaspoon Cacao nibs
                  1 x Date to sweeten.
1 Heaped teaspoon of Hemp Seeds
Place all ingredients into a blender- adding a few cubes of ice if desired.

Be careful- Maca is 60% carbohydrate with a mere 10% protein content, with the remaining nutrients coming from healthy fatty acids.   Maca is literally a root vegetable, a distant relative of the radish, hence its powerful energy coming from that stored energy within its root vegetable body, so as with all things- moderation.
